As one of our original WR10K races when we opened the series back in 2012, we couldn’t have been more delighted to return to Nottingham yesterday for a fourth consecutive year.
More than 500 runners gathered at Victoria Embankment for the race and, as ever, the ladies of Nottingham Nike Air Max 2016 Dame were full of energy and brimming with enthusiasm. The Notts Women Runners were out in force – as were the ladies of Too Fat To Run – and Adidas ZX 700 Mujer the sense of race-day camaraderie couldn’t have felt stronger. This was certainly felt in the atmosphere when the runners gathered around the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 Femme stage to hear from pacer Annette Frost, and one of our inspiring 10K runners, Karen Hodgson.Annette shared her pacing strategies, instilling confidence in those looking to break the sub-55 hour mark, before hearing from Karen – the first woman ever to run the London Marathon with a heart transplant. After sharing her moving story of how her world transformed since receiving a transplant and the awe-inspiring challenges she has completed since, the ladies were left teary as they gave their cheers of support.
The ladies also heard from Solgar representative Kirby Johnson about the role of vitamins in a runner’s diet, and also from PT Jurdga Proudlove, who gave the low-down on the importance of warming Nike Air Max 90 Womens up before a race, before setting the ladies off in a lively pre-run warm-up.The 5K and 10K runners were then raring to go, as they took to the Nike Air Huarache Womens start line to take on the fast and flat courses.
First home in the 5K was mum-of-three, Lindsey Simpson, 32, from Bingham, who was cheered over the line by her three children. She said: “I’m really surprised! I was going to do the 10K as I was a bit poorly, so I’m really pleased I did the 5K!”
It wasn’t long before seasoned WR10K runner Wrenne Ninja led the 10K runners home, leaping over the finish line with a beaming smile.
